KHL, an alternative to the NHL during lockouts

The last NHL lock out left many hockey fans and hockey bettors to find an alternative.  Previous lock outs, there wasn't much to choose from, but now the KHL has become a world class league.  The KHL is not a substandard substitute, but a real alternative to the NHL.  Many of the stars from the National Hockey League have come across the Atlantic Ocean to play in the Континентальная хоккейная лига or the Kontinental Hockey League if you prefer.  The KHL have welcomed the stars, but many of stars have not played as well as they would have like.  That is because of, how different the game play is here and how advanced the play has gotten throughout the years in the KHL.
Evgeny Malkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Pavel Datsyuk and Alexander Ovechkin are just some of the NHLers who are playing here.  Some of them are lighting up the scoreboard and some are having troubles adjusting to the KHL.  None of them are leading the score charts.  Last years MVP, Alexander Radulov is showing the NHLers that the KHL is no longer a second rate league, while being number one in the scoring race this year.
The KHL is fun to watch and only getting better, watch for some permanent deflections back to Russia in the next couple of years as players get used to playing in their homeland.  Even more so if the the NHL continues to have lock outs on a regular basis.  If you are looking to bet on the KHL, we recommend you open an account with Bodog for the best odds on KHL hockey.

KHL Super Stars

Evgeny Malkin, Ilya Kovalchuk, Pavel Datsyuk and Alexander Ovechkin are well known superstars in the NHL that are playing in the KHL this year.  They are also being beaten in the points department by long time KHL veterans Alexander Radulov and Sergei Mozyakin.  In fact the two best teams (at the time of this review) in the league don't have any high profile NHL stars on their roster.
It is unclear on whether or not the KHL is that good or if the NHL stars are having a hard time adjusting to a different style of play.  I wouldn't be too surprised to see Alexander Radulov take the scoring title again this year, but he will have tough competition as Evgeny Malkin, Ilya Kovalchuk and Pavel Datsyuk start to get a handle on the KHL.

KHL Goaltending

There are three well known NHL goaltenders in the KHL this year.  Ilya Bryzgalov from the Philadelphia Flyers, Pekka Rinne from the Nashville Predators and Semyon Varlamov from the Colorado Avalanche are playing in the KHL during the lock out.  The best NHL goaltender in the league is Semyon Varlamov with a 1.94 GAA and a .942 save percentage, good for 6th and 2nd in the league respectively.  Pekka Rinne goaltending has been reliable, but not spectacular with a 2.79 GAA, .906 save percentage, making him an average goaltender in the league.

The Team to Beat

The KHL is a relatively balanced league, with only a few teams from the East Conference that won't be competing for a playoff spot, but there are some teams that are far better than the rest.  These teams include CSKA Moscow, Lokomotiv, Dynamo Moscow, Traktor, Avangard, AK Bars Kazan and SKA Saint Petersburg.  Dynamo Moscow could easily repeat and become the second team to win back to back Gagarin Cups, but getting past Lokomotiv goaltending in the playoffs might prove to be too tough of a task.  Either way, I would pick these two teams from the West to win it all.
